Here are 2 plants I took pictures of today up on the mountain. The greener one is called Aalii. You can see the flowers are very small. The other is commonly called Hinahina. It's leaves have a distinctive 3 point pattern. The flowers are soooooo pretty.
I've been building a collection of flower pictures. I am searching out native Hawaiian flowers in particular. Here are 3 varieties of plants found near the ocean shoreline or in brackish water ponding areas. They are all very small. The white flower that looks like only half is there, is called Naupaka. The other white flower is called Aeae, and the purple flower is called Akulikuli.
It was so nice to have a good weather day at the beach. The trade winds are slowly filling back in and the ocean is just perfect. A larger full set of images is available at www.asaellison.com/pics/june1/kanaha_beach.html
